We have ‘been blessed’ with incredible rains!!!

The Milgis looking its best!!

The Milgis looking its best!! End Nov. 2013

We are very very lucky up in northern Kenya.. the rains were very late in coming, and we were all worried that they had failed, but no, all is well, on the 3rd of november they came in style and this is the fabulous result!!  There is a green sheen on over the whole place.. Unusual for here!

Usually the foot hills of the Matthews or Ndotos are brown…..

The rain started on the 2nd november,  with a pretty dramatic wind that flattened many trees through out the area.. Many many of our most valuable trees, the Acacia Tortilis where knocked over, but luckily they have a knack of not dieing, even if they are on their side..

Not long ago I wrote a blog  about how dry it was up here in the NFD..   ‘Why we should all stiil be nomadic’! ( No rain for 7 months!… )  Now look at how it is!!!   Now its the time to be up our way!  Although actually I think that this week all over Kenya has had a good dousing,  just to chivy us all along as we celebrate 50  YEARS OF INDERPENDANCE!!..

We had a night camera out for the 3 weeks so just fun to see the changes!

The moral of the story..  All good things come to you if you are patient!.. The feeling of calm reigns over the whole area.. I can’t remember it being like this for a long time.. All the dams are full to bursting, and EVERY ONE IS HAPPY!

  1. HI Helen! This is so awesome! A really great series of pictures to show how the ground comes to life with a little rain! What a transformation – I will be using these in some presentations next year for sure!

  2. That beautiful long green grass almost makes we want to become a full-time vegetarian….well, almost. What an immense bounty brought to this fabulous land! Well done….Milgis Trust, VOSS, and Mother Nature! Love you guys!!!

  3. I am so glad for you all, Helen. What a wonderful Christmas present for all those animals. Thinking of you up there. All the best for 2014 from us here in the Northern hemisphere, and bless you for all you do. Jane Allin
