It should be the end of the dry season by now?? .. Its such a tough time for every living thing.. Here its HOT, DRY, VERY WINDY, DUSTY and nothing left for the animals to eat.. Water is hard to find.. The fires rage.. Its so tinder dry they catch so easily… So this cloud on the horizon gave every one great hope just over two 2 weeks ago, it even rained or maybe lets say drizzeled almost all over a few days later for one day, but all its done is exasperated the problem… We all can’t wait to see the luggas in full flood again.. Its been a very long time, as the April /May rains were very poor.. They keep on telling us this year the rains are going to be more than usual!! We live in hope..
Times like now its hard for every one.. The people are digging deep wells to get to water and then look what happend to this one..
BUT look what our friends did in the night!??? they had a bawl .. How do you tell a tired man that the herd of Elephants were just having a drink, and as they were hot as well, and they had abit of a mud bath as well!!??
The other morning we were called see what was going on here.. This Elephant was really dragging his front leg..
Our men followed him every day and the limp got less and less, so we decided maybe he had pulled a muscle.. or something like that.. He spent a few days in the same area, resting, but was eating and drinking well,so we let him be… When he felt better, off he went…
Latakwen is a typical sprawling centre with rubbish pilling up all along the fences.. We try so hard to not let it get out of control.. Apart from the awfall sight, animals die every day from eating plastic.. I want to thank our secondary school children for doing this .. We feel its good for them to do it as its so horrible that maybe they won’t chuck rubbish out them selves.. NOT A PLEASANT JOB BUT SOMEBODY HAS TO LEAD THE WAY…
We THANK our secondary school children for this good work and hope you’ll never throw rubbish your selves!!
And now to better things..
Milgis school is a better place now because we have been given an environmentalist at heart as our head master.. Lentanyishe… We have to thank our government for sending him!! The first thing he insisted is for this signpost to be read every time the students arrive at school.. and of course any one else!
and this is what he has in his office..
New Foot ball uniforms for the Milgis School team!!! Weheyeee… Cooool!
We thank our friends in Australia for bringing books and pencils to the school and our lot have a small present for you!!…
Finally with the help of our good friends in Norway we are now looking at the future of the Milgis and the our area.. These girls and boys are now in University and Colleges with one goal, and that is to come back to work in the Milgis area..
What a wonderful blog you write Helen, full of hope and interesting news. I do hope the rain comes soon and the good times will be back for all.
