A Milgis ‘medal for these GOOD People!!

because they have half killed themselves for the MILGIS TRUST and FOR ALL THAT WE BELIEVE IN!!

All we can say is thank you all so sooooooooo very, very much!!  You are all STARS of the Milgis!.. and we are very proud of you…  There are several  people that deserve a medal for busting them selves to support us…  Sarah Boughardt walked 90 kms in one day in the recent Calendonian challenge in Scotland , and not so long ago did the toughest ski race in sweden, Last year Andrew Brudenell Bruce and his Milgis co, Ina, Rusty, Flea and Alice ran a very challenging marathon at lewa downs,  a couple of years ago Nick Tims swam the English channel.. a serious and very dangerous feat, which is not possible unless you do an unbelievablely tough training for, and 5 years ago my Pete walked 65 kms, in his 65th year in under 12 hours on the day that we had more rain than I’ve ever seen up in the Ndoto mountains!

This sad picture SAYS IT ALL, and is the main reason why these GOOD people almost break themselves …..  Its hard times for our giants, not only are they dieing because SOMEBODY wants their tusks, but the ones that don’t die are left stranded, and frightened.. ‘Milgis’ because of our way of working actually also can say proudly that we have not lost many Elephants, in the last 6 years of awfall poaching through out Africa, but even to loose one is too many!

The reason is because we have so many supporters that really care..

The reason these four people do it is because we have to stop this senseless killing NOW..

NO this is not fair.. JUST NOT FAIR…..

The sad reality.. The elephant above was killed for only one reason.. for his tusks, so that somebody can have them to show off with!..

Sarah has half killed herself twice for the cause and we are very gratefull…,

and when she is really suffering and thinking I can’t put another step forward these images above come back to haunt her and she keeps going.. !! Her words ‘ It was truly a challenge, and by far the most painful thing I’ve ever undertaken’  Sarah WOW we can believe it.. Although i’ve probably done more walking than most in my life, there is no way i could have done this.. SO we all say congratulations and so many thanks from all of us!!

heres sarah gearing up for the ski race a couple of years ago!

the toughest ski race in the world and sarah is right in there!!

then Andrew Brudnell-Bruce team leader of the Milgis co ran in the Marathon at lewa last year.. Andrew was up early exercising for months making sure he would keep up with his team.. his 2 daughters, Ina Astrup and Rusty!!

the red line is Nicks route and it was NOT easy!.. He did it for the Milgis!! I don’t know how far it was BUT A LONG LONG GRINDING SWIM, through huge ship traffic and ocean currents..

Pete and Kosma walked from Ngurnit to Lkanto, for the Elephants!..  2011

Pete and kosma setting off on their marathon walk at 4 am , into the dark..they had planned this for years working on a full moon and lovely sunny weather.. it was the wettest day I've ever known and they battled!!

Pete and Kosma (our Milgis honorary scout) setting off on their marathon walk at 4 am , into the dark..they had planned this for years working on a full moon and lovely sunny weather.. it was the wettest day I’ve ever known and they battled!!, in fact they got back to base before i did in the plane as i could not get off the runway till the evening!!

On Lkanto hill after the walk !.. Theres lots of banter for the next walk!!

On Lkanto hill after the walk !.. Now.. between these two theres lots of banter for the next walk!!.. maybe Sware to Lkanto!

as Pete neared his destination after a long day walking these 3 giants went to greet him.. you think i'm joking but I'm not!!

as Pete neared his destination after a long day walking these 3 giants went to greet him.. you think i’m joking but I’m not!!

the three boys came back to respect pete and Kosma the next morning!! they are definitely coming with a message!!

the three boys came back in respect to Pete and Kosma the next morning!! they are definitely coming with a message!!.. look how they all came from different directions!

as i said to Sarah, the Elephants will know that you are doing it for them as these 3 did.. They waited for pete to arrive at his destination all day, when he arrived they went off to eat!! Amazingly then they came back the next day!!  Sarah, Its a little difficult for them to greet you in Scotland, but my animal whisperer another Sarah tells me the elephants knew you were doing it, as they knew with the others who were ‘hurting’ for them!!.. So go, go, go every one!!

I usually end on a happy note but not this time as the poaching is still a true threat , only this morning I received a radio report that there are 3 possible poachers in the area, so as we speak all our 60 scouts and informers are on high alert and have informed the communities to let them know if they see any thing strange going on!

We do not want any more magnificent animals killed in cold blood for their Ivory like this beautiful big bull that was obliterated  in a rain of bullets a few years ago… now his bones have disappeared into the sand down the Milgis…

What for….

What for….

a few months later

The bones of this beautiful bull, and soon when a big flood come they will be gone…

ultimately we thank ALL who support the Milgis, in any way large or small, we know that others may not have half killed them selves by running, walking, swimming, skiing crazy distances, but have half killed themselves because raising money is VERY HARD WORK, however its done!!

THANK YOU ALL!! We are spending your money well and achieving great things.. come and see for yourself.. We have just finished a safari where we saw wonderful herds of safe happy elephants!.. (HAD to finish on a happy note!!!)

LONG LIVE THESE AMAZING ANIMALS!!

  1. Peter Isley. Your passion to get results for ‘Milgis’, I have been doing it for ‘Sharks’, since coming to S.A. (Not KZN rugby). Sept 1996 the KZN Wildlife Nature Conservation Award for getting Aliwal Shoal into a Marine Protected Area (MPA), for its biodiversity and a bus stop for the ‘Spotted Ragged-toothed ‘ shark. In 2003 awarded the W
‘Whale’s Tail’ in recognition of one mans passion changing the wrong opinion of sharks for so many people. In Dusseldorf Germany at the BOOT, I was awarded the ‘Shark Guardian of 2005’. Andrew Cobb. Many years have passed since we saw each other.

  2. To those people who do incredible things to raise money for the elephants. . . you are as amazing as the wonderful giants you are helping to protect. Thank you.
