A proper flood this time!!!.. The Milgis lugga became at least 100 meters wider in places, taking whole banks and trees down with it..
Its been a year of ABSOLUTE desperation because of NO RAIN, or minimum lets say, for the people and animals living in this area.. AND NOW THIS!!! Suddenly there is this wonderful feeling of PEACE…. Every one just getting on with life.. its wonderful!

The Laana Nikan that joins the Parsaloi which then becomes the Milgis, flooded so high, at least 12 feet higher than we’ve ever seen or known, that it broke the banks right into below Lkanto … that is ALL water!

this is what it usually looks like!
Down on the right hand side of this picture we had a night camera that was easily we thought above any dream of a flood !.. look what happens!!

Night camera position 20th October evening

the last visitor to this camera

An early morning surprise!!

getting higher!!

Gone….the card survived but not camera!

mud mud glorious mud!..

incredible this whole bank used to be trees and shrubs, and now its bare rock!!
Apart from the excitment of the good rains, our best news this year is the Milgis once again rings every night with the sound of lions roaring!!!
Then I end the year with a nice story of ‘Moutsetung’!! .. the rare and beautiful Egyptian spiny mouse!.. Milgis rescues all.. great and small and this was a wonderful challenge.. He went on two safaris! He was carried to Ngurnit and back in a basket!.. Now he is free at Lkanto..

Rescued up side down and half dead

His grand home!!

Moutsetung watching over his mighty kingdom!
HAPPY DAYS TO YOU ALL and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING US TO SAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL PART OF KENYA!!..
THREE HEARTS from 2017 FOR GOOD LUCK!!!
this moth was stuck in a pool of water and made a heart shape.. after the picture I rescued the moth!!
Wonderful WONDERFUL, Helen & Pete! Love hearing about your amazing patch on this wide earth, and seeing the rains! Great stories. Keep ’em coming.
How wonderful for The Milgis….but did it rain there or is this water from elsewhere? Still lovely to see such big waters! Nice that you hear lions and see their spoor. That little Egyptian Spiny Mouse (and I love its name) is a very courageous and trusting soul – not to mention terribly cute and adorable. Thanks for the update Helen.
All the best, Katherine
Awesome update Helen! Karen and I wish to extends our best wishes for you and Pete, for the holidays and a safe and happy New Years.
