I know I’ve said before that the rains have come and its the end of the drought BUT I think this time its for real!!! already by the end of March its more than we’ve had for a LOOOOOONG TIME!!!
I just want you all to know that the relief is UNBELIEVABLE.. Its amazing what a drop of rain can do for the morale.. We all feel uplifted and happy...

Looking north..

Looking South up the Laana Nikan (Seiya) lugga

Just before it rained, our Remate E Losho team embarked on a trial run to put some bunds as a ‘show case’ to the communities in the overgrazed and badly eroded area’s in Lekeri.. hopefully this maybe a way forwards to save the situation..

Then the rains came and nearly washed away our ReL team!!

Luggas flooded..

Funny how JUST A DROP OF RAIN can remove months, years even of stress.. Two weeks later we are all wondering what all the fuss was about!!.
WE ARE ALL SMILING!!
WILDLIFE FRIENDLY WELLS…. We are very happy and proud of the job these 70 guys have done to help the animals get to water safely.. AND with great success.

Finally, very excited to show you these images from the night camera of the elephants drinking from one of our wildlife friendly wells.. We have tried over the years but the elephants for some reason don’t like the camera and have destroyed quite a few!

The Dam unit have also been incredibly busy and now we can also ‘pat their efforts on the back’ as ALMOST ALL ARE FULL OF WATER.. Up to now Milgis has done approx 150 pan dams!..

Just a reminder below how bad it was! A few recent pictures, just before the rain came, of what we can say “good bye” to for a few years hopefully..

BUT GOOD NEWS!! A couple of days ago this was the report from the desert!!!…
from the manager!.. Good morning team. Yesterday I spoke to our guys in the desert and they were very happy about rains. They reported good rain which is still on even yesterday. In southern end of the desert they reported very happy giraffes. One scout reported that giraffes were very playful. They saw a group of 6 with two young ones chasing one another up and down just happy and playing.
Some of the desert animals couldn’t make it..

The reason why we are digging these wells is to try to stop the elephants and all other wildlife from falling in.. Check these guys below Loikumukum.. REALLY DANGEROUS.. the well could collapse or they can fall in head first..
NO MORE for now any way!

No more community meetings to find a solution so that they don’t completely inundate the system..
ALL OF US LIVING IN THE MILGIS AREAS AND OUT INTO THE DESERTS, SAY, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE HELPED THE PEOPLE, THE LIVESTOCK THE WILDLIFE SURVIVE THESE TOUGH TIMES..
WE ARE ALL DREAMING OF A FEW YEARS OF PLENTY OF MILK.. SO THAT EVERY ONE CAN BE GENEROUS AGAIN..
Finally a view of Mt Kenya from near Naro Moru.. The sun on its way north, passing the mountain.. 16th March..

Yes, I was ecstatic seeing the rain come to your area and almost the entire Kenya weather radar map. Hope it was just the start and that it continues…all the best to you and Pete and your Samburu family. Kat
