Live life to the full, for you don’t know when the end is..

Hello every one, again!!  Yes, long time no hear from me, because of a sad thing that happened in July..  my blog starts off with a small thank you to nature for giving my brother an amazing 51 years of fun on this world

Simon died after a plane crash in Peru, we don’t really know what happened, because he was a brilliant pilot having flown this beautiful old Cessna 180 thousands of hours, and landed just about every where around Kenya

Simon loved what we are doing up in the Milgis and I hope to remember his amazing spirit through our work up there..

Despite the Silence on my blogs it has been an incredibly busy 3 months up in the Milgis.. We start with a climb we did up to Suruan, on the North end of the Ndoto Mountains, at the end of June, where this beautiful little Elephant was sadly found lost and hungry only 2 or 3 days into its life at the beginning of August.. The children that went out with the cattle suddenly saw there was one extra in amoungst their cows, and initially ran for it, thinking mother was bound to be close, but sadly not and eventually the father of the children took it home to his manyatta..  Because of the remoteness of this mountain, it then took another day and a half to find help through one of our scouts, who arrived the next day and co-ordinated the rescue.. Two sleepless nights, on every ones part, but so far the little mite is doing well at David Sheldrick wildlife trust in Nairobi..  Daphne, and all,  Thank you for being there for these little ones!!

Meanwhile on our way up the mountain, we came across this sight… The repercussions of this awfall burning, which still continues now and then, but the communities are now realising that its ONLY THEM THAT SUFFER WHEN THEY DO THIS!!!!

this was a really terribly hot fire about two years ago.. total 100% damage.. Its seems that it was conflict between two communities!?? crazy isn’t it, but the people who burn’t it are the ones to suffer..

the fire was so hot it took out all the big trees on the whole hill side, plus look whats growing in their place.. weeds! no good to any one..

This little stream, in the oldest mans memory, has never dried up before, so now the communities have learn’t a serious lesson!!

Thanks to TOTO TRUST the Nursary school on the Ndoto Mountains has doubled in size, the children have two teachers and books.. We are incredibly gratefull.. While I was there,  I had showed them a picture of “AHMED” the beautiful elephant from Marsabit, and they all sent me a message saying they hope that Ndoto will grow as big and as famous as him!!

The community up here are always happy to see us there, so a meeting at the school again!..

Ahmed the FAMOUS Marsabit Tusker.. His Tusks were so heavy he had to shuffel forward then move his tusks forward!! Please every one, lets wish that Ndoto is a descendant of this amazing Elephant and will live to be the same age..

After this we had a very interresting visit from Lisa Walker who came to teach us to talk to the animals!! Lots more on this soon, but here we all are being taught how to do it..

Although I have not mastered it, the scouts did!! and they managed to talk to the grevy’s, Lions, and giraffes.. Lisa spoke with the Elephants and calmed them down to come and drink right in our camp..             No, I have not gone mad!! It really works!

FINALLY THE MILGIS PRIMARY SCHOOL is completed!!.. the opening  was just fabulous, plenty of dancing, jovial banter, and fun.. So we have 1 Nursary and 8 class rooms, teachers houses,  a kitchen and water!, and 8 teachers!!  Books and pens!! A fully operative school, thanks to every one involved!!

The Milgis Eco-School, is finally completed, thanks to every one involved.. and finally to the Bergums in memory of Lena Maria for the final ascent.. EVERY ONES  SUPPORT IS UNBELIEVABLY APPRECIATED BY ALL HERE!!

WE encourage the children of the Milgis school to keep their samburu traditions and CULTURE, and to be proud of who they are..

Women came to support the people of Ilgwe Eldome (elephants Head), in taking over their completed school! Dressed in their full ceremony dresses.. Very impressive!

The theme for the celebrations was THANKING THE ELEPHANTS for giving them this school.. The women and children’s songs all include words about the ‘milk’ from the elephants!

Be nice to Elephants and they’ll be nice to you!.. ITS SIMPLE!!!                                                 The classrooms are all adorned with these murals of conservation..
